HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 cc300-1W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will name the special development areas in Scotland; and if he will give a detailed statement of how he intends to maintain their special status, in the light of the Government's decision to alter the basis of aid to industry.

Mr. Noble

I have been asked to reply. The following employment exchange areas in Scotland are at present Special Development Areas: Girvan, Lesmahagow, Leven and Methil, Sanquhar and Shotts.

The changes in investment incentives do not affect the additional measures of assistance provided under the Local Employment Acts, and applicable in Special Development Areas, apart from the change in the basis of calculation of operational grants referred to in the Answer given by my hon. Friend the Minister for Industry to my hon. Friend the Member for Gravesend (Mr. Roger White) on 28th October.
