HC Deb 02 November 1970 vol 805 c284W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he has now discussed Report No. 151 of the National Board for Prices and incomes with the major plant bakers; and whether he will make a statement.

Mr. Prior

Yes. I have informed the major plant bakers that the Government regarded the proposals for regular reviews of bread prices which are discussed in the Report and any form of detailed supervision of prices as inconsistent with its policy of leaving the determination of food prices to the firms concerned. But I have expressed the wish to be kept informed of prospective increases in bread prices and of the broad reasons for them. My officials will be discussing arrangements for this with the industry.
