HC Deb 26 May 1970 vol 801 cc462-4W
Mr. Dickens

asked the Minister of Technology what was the expenditure in 1968–69 and 1969–70 on defence contracts arranged between his Department's research and development establishments and the universities, showing separately the amount attributable to each university.

Dr. Ernest A. Davies:

The Ministry has a number of university agreements for the performance of research which may, in general, have both civil and defence applications. The Ministry's total expenditure in 1968–69 on such agreements in the aerospace field (i.e. excluding agreements sponsored by the industrial research establishments which are wholly civil) was approximately £1,170,000. It is not practicable, without disproportionate effort, to identify within this figure the total for agreements sponsored by the R.&D. establishments, but it amounts to about three-quarters of the grand total. The division between universities in 1968–69 is given in the attached table. The corresponding figures for 1969–70 are not yet available: I will write to my hon. Friend when they are to hand.
