HC Deb 26 May 1970 vol 801 c460W
Mr. Malcolm MacMillan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is satisfied that the progress being made by the Ross and Cromarty Education Authority in the Isle of Lewis with school hostel accommodation is adequate for the number of pupils from the island villages who will be attending the Nicolson Institute when comprehensive arrangements are in operation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ross:

The boarding of pupils in hostels or in lodgings is primarily a matter for the education authority; I understand from the authority that, with the recent completion of two new buildings, all but a few pupils, some of whom have remained in private lodgings at their own request, are accommodated in hostels. A further hostel which it is proposed to build in 2–3 years' time is expected to cope with foreseeable needs.
