HC Deb 26 May 1970 vol 801 c464W
Mr. Burden

asked the Minister of Technology what was the total number of civil servants employed by Departments comparable to his existing Department in 1964, and the annual cost; and what were the figures on 31st December, 1968, and the relevant figures on 30th April, 1970.

Mr. Carmichael:

The staff employed by the Ministry of Technology on 1st April 1970, the latest date for which information is available, was 25,574 non-industrials and 12,296 industrials, a total of 37,870.

The annual staff cost included in 1969–70 Parliamentary Estimates was £67,596,000.

Because of the re-organisations affecting the work of the Department, is it not possible to provide the information for earlier years.
