asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what will be the estimated total expenditure on education during the period 1968 to 1972; and what was the figure for 1961 to 1965.

Mr. Edward Short:

£8,092 million and £4,420 million respectively for England and Wales and universities in Great Britain.

16. Mr. Roebuck

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what was the total spending on university education during the past five years; and what was the comparable figure for the previous five years.

Mr. Edward Short:

£1,417 million and £641 million respectively.
