Mr. Anderson

Information about council dwellings for the elderly is not readily available in the form requested; but 7,430 one-bedroom dwellings were built from 1965 to 1969, most of which were for occupation by elderly people. The comparable number for the preceding five years was 5,447.

Mr. Anderson

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many elderly people are in residential homes in Wales at the latest convenient date; and what was the comparable figure in 1964.

Mr. George Thomas:

At the end of 1969 there were 6,997 places for elderly people in homes for the aged administered by local authorities or voluntary organ- isations. The comparable number of places for 1964 was 5,727.
