HC Deb 01 May 1970 vol 800 c403W
Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many young immigrant female children have been admitted to Great Britain as wives, or wives-to-be of immigrant men, for the latest convenient stated period of time.

Mr. Merlyn Rees:

No statistics are available about the age of women admitted as the wives of Commonwealth citizens resident in the United Kingdom; but the number under 16 must be few. A child under 16 would not be admitted for a marriage ceremony due to take place before her 16th birthday.
