§ Sir R. Russellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is aware that Great Britain lags behind some other countries in licensing commercially the use of human diploid cells in the manufacture of vaccines; and if he will increase the use of these methods which have been tested and shown to be satisfactory abroad.
§ Mr. CrossmanI understand that there are two overseas countries where vaccines produced in human diploid cells are available. In this country, vaccines of this type against rubella and poliomyelitis are currently undergoing clinical trials, and I can assure the hon. Member that the importance of such vaccines is fully appreciated.
