§ 56. Mr. Roebuckasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is aware that house rules are being imposed by some German landlords on British Service tenants which are affecting morale; and whether he will take steps to improve arrangements for the renting of property by Service families.
§ Mr. HattersleyMost married families in Germany are housed in publicly owned married quarters or in accommodation hired by the Ministry of Defence. A small number, however, for whom official quarters or hirings are not available occupy accommodation which they obtain privately and the terms of these tenancies are a matter between the individual and the landlord. I am not aware that the rules imposed by German landlords are any more restrictive than those imposed by landlords in this country.
