HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 c416W
56. Mr. Roebuck

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is aware that house rules are being imposed by some German landlords on British Service tenants which are affecting morale; and whether he will take steps to improve arrangements for the renting of property by Service families.

Mr. Hattersley

Most married families in Germany are housed in publicly owned married quarters or in accommodation hired by the Ministry of Defence. A small number, however, for whom official quarters or hirings are not available occupy accommodation which they obtain privately and the terms of these tenancies are a matter between the individual and the landlord. I am not aware that the rules imposed by German landlords are any more restrictive than those imposed by landlords in this country.
