HC Deb 25 March 1970 vol 798 cc419-20W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Defence why he is arranging for eight Members of Parliament and two peers to use public transport and public facilities at public expense to go on a private tour of Germany; and under what statutory authority he is using public funds for such purposes.

Mr. Hattersley

The visit is being arranged so that a limited number of those Peers and Members of Parliament interested in defence matters may inform themselves of the activities of the British Forces in Germany. No specific statutory authority is required; the costs are met from the limited amount voted by Parliament for entertainment and publicity purposes.
