§ Mr. Maclennan
asked the Minister of Public Building and Works what has been the total expenditure of his Department on ancient monuments and archaeological work in the seven crofting counties, and in Caithness and Sutherland in particular, in the last five years.

§ Mr. John Silkin
There are no ancient monuments in guardianship in Sutherland and few in Caithness. Expenditure in the seven crofting counties is given below, with figures for Caithness and Sutherland in brackets.
