HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 cc338-9W
85. Mr. Allason

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many local authority rent schemes he has rejected to date; and what has been the average percentage increase in local authority rate poundages as a result, in the areas concerned.

Mr. Denis Howell

My right hon. Friend has rejected 245 proposals for rent increases. In nearly all these cases the authority had some alternative to increasing its rate fund contributions to the Housing Revenue Account. He rejected a few proposals for average rent increases above 7s. 6d. a week in a 52-week period where some increase in a rate fund contribution might ensue. Such an increase would not necessarily cause a corresponding increase in the rate levied.
