HC Deb 24 March 1970 vol 798 cc334-5W
77. Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what were the total payments to owner-occupiers, housing associations and private landlords under the Housing Act, 1969, for improvement and conversion during the first quarter of the Act's operation.

Mr. Freeson

The total amount of grants paid under these heads during the last quarter of 1969 was £3.4 million. But as grants are not paid until after works are completed most of this amount was for grants approved under previous legislation.

78. Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he is taking to publicise and inform local authorities of the terms of the Housing Act, 1969, particularly in respect of grants for improvement and conversion.

Mr. Freeson

By Ministerial visits to local authorities, showings and discussions of the film "Streets Ahead" and explanatory circulars and free booklets. Regional offices of the Ministry are in day-to-day contact with local authorities.

More generally the Ministry's exhibit at the Ideal Home Exhibition has been well received. It is being followed by a national publicity campaign starting on 4th April.
