HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c270W
94. Mr. Wolrige-Gordon

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he is satisfied as to the effect of the continuing centralisation of operations, including minor operations, in large hospitals, on the rural population; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Crossman

In order to provide patients who need surgery with the best possible treatment considerable concentration of the highly qualified manpower and costly equipment and supporting services required is desirable. Admittedly this policy may cause some difficulties for patients in rural areas.
