asked the Minister of Transport if he will review the maximum fine for the offence of driving a motor vehicle uninsured, with a view to amending legislation.

Mr. Mulley

No. My right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and I keep all statutory penalties for traffic offences under review, but we see no need for an immediate increase in the maximum fine of £50 for this particular offence, particularly as there is provision also for imprisonment.
