HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 c310W
Mr. Crawshaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the percentage of successful applications for legal aid in criminal cases in magistrates' courts for the country as a whole in the year 1969; and how this compared with legal aid granted similar courts in the City of Liverpool.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

The figures for 1969 are not yet available. In 1968 approximately 84 per cent. of applications for legal aid in criminal proceeding in magistrates' courts in England and Wales were successful. The corresponding figure for the Liverpool City Magistrates' Court is approximately 62 per cent.
