§ Mr. Wallasked the Minister of Technology what proportion of the money allocated to the Humberside under the Local Employment Act, 1970, will be counted against the financing of the Humber Bridge; and what proportion will be available for other forms of assistance to the area.
§ Mr. VarleyThe arrangements for financing the Humber Bridge were explained in the statement by my right hon. Friend the then Secretary of State for Economic Affairs on 30th April, 1969. There will he no expenditure on the bridge under the Local Employment Act, 1970. Gross annual public expenditure under this Act is unlikely to exceed £14 million in a full year. As the distribution of financial assistance will depend largely on the response of industry in particular places, this estimate cannot be broken down by individual intermediate areas.—[Vol. 782, c. 1437–42.]
