HC Deb 23 March 1970 vol 798 cc274-5W
Captain Kerby

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will bring up to date the figures of the Health Report for England and Wales published in 1966, which stated that between 1952 and 1961 West Indian coloureds were responsible for 54.2 per cent. of the increase of gonorrhea in males; and if he will publish comparable figures for each of the years 1962 to 1969.

Dr. John Dunwoody

I am unable to identify the statement mentioned by the hon. and gallant Member but information about gonorrhea in West Indians is in the Annual Reports of my Chief Medical Officer. Figures for 1962 and 1969 are not available in these reports but in 1961 27.3 per cent. of the number of cases studied were West Indian males and in 1968 17.2 per cent.
