asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will seek powers to require the publication in national Press and television of details of missing persons where appropriate.

My right hon. Friend is not persuaded that such powers are either necessary or desirable. The Press and television are approached by chief constables in cases where their help may be valuable.
