HC Deb 12 March 1970 vol 797 c359W
46. Mr. John Page

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what fresh steps he proposes to take to improve law and order in view of the recent crime figures reported for the London Metropolitan area.

Mr. Callaghan

The number of indictable offences known to the police in the Metropolis increased in 1969, but so have the proportion of crimes cleared up and the proportion of arrests made for indictable offences. The marked improvements in equipment, and the increase in manpower and expenditure on crime prevention and detection will continue.
