HC Deb 11 March 1970 vol 797 cc305-6W
46. Sir Richard Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many species of domestic animals, other than dogs and cats, are subjected to quarantine against rabies; and for how long in each case.

Mr. Mackie

None.

The import of certain exotic species susceptible to rabies and known to play a part in the spread of disease abroad is banned except under licence to zoos and research centres. My right hon. Friend is suspending the issue of licences to zoos pending the report of the Committee of Inquiry into our rabies policy.

47. Sir Richard Glyn

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will now vaccinate against rabies all dogs from abroad at the commencement of their quarantine, using the vaccine recommended for this purpose by the World Health Organisation.

Mr. Mackie

No. My right hon. Friend announced on 6th March the additional precautions we are taking against the introduction of rabies pending the report of the Committee of Inquiry.—[Vol. 797. c.171–2.]
