§ 53. Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will take steps to ensure that imports of food to the United Kingdom come only from countries which conform to pesticide and antibiotic regulations at least as stringent as those imposed upon home producers.
§ Mr. HoyAll food is controlled by the Food and Drugs Act, 1955; in addition the Imported Food Regulations, 1968, require that all imported food be sound, wholesome and fit for human consumption. There is therefore no general need to restrict imports of food from particular countries.
