HC Deb 06 March 1970 vol 797 cc185-6W
Dr. Winstanley

asked the President of the Board of Trade what is the average age of the members of the Air Transport Licensing Board; what are the ages of the youngest and the oldest members of the board, respectively, and what provision exists for the removal of members from the board on grounds of age or incapacity.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

The average age of the members is 68. The youngest is 62 and the oldest 75. Appointments are made for a limited term, so the question of removal on grounds of age does not arise. The Board of Trade can declare a member's office vacant if it is satisfied that he has been absent from meetings of the Air Transport Licensing Board without permission for more than six months; has become bankrupt or made an arrangement with his creditors; or has by reason of illness of any other cause become unable or unfit to act as a member.
