HC Deb 05 March 1970 vol 797 c141W
49. Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will seek powers to compel local education authorities to ensure that all children attending primary and secondary schools are able to obtain a school meal during the midday break if they wish to do so.

Mr. Edward Short

Local education authorities already have a statutory duty to provide, so far as is reasonably practicable, a midday meal for all day pupils attending maintained schools who require one.
