asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students entered colleges of education in 1969; what were the figures for the previous seven years; and what are the anticipated numbers for 1970 and 1971.

Mr. Fowler

39,941 students were admitted to courses of initial training in colleges of education and departments of education in technical colleges in 1969. The figures for previous years are:
