asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what steps he proposes to take to improve the working of the Greater London and South-East Sports Council.

Regional sports councils advise me on the priorities to be allocated to sports projects of local authorities. Before doing so it is clearly necessary that they should give the authorities concerned the opportunity to put their case. I shall be reminding regional chairmen of the importance of this arrangement and of ensuring that the regional sports councils accept the ultimate responsibility for the decisions taken by them on priorities.
