During the year from 1st April, 1969, to 31st March, 1970, it is estimated that work to the value of £14.2 million was carried out on hospital building in Scotland at the expense of the National Health Service (Scotland) Vote: this figure compares with £13.7 million in 1967–68 and £14.4 million in 1968–69.

The units provided during the year in new or converted buildings include 818 beds and a variety of other hospital facilities. The value of these completed schemes was £11,932,000.

The total cost of all schemes in progress on 31st March, 1970, by type of development, is made up as follows:
