HC Deb 24 July 1970 vol 804 cc275-6W
Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will now review the regulations governing the licensing of gaming clubs in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I am considering the regulations to which my hon. Friend refers but I am not yet in a position to make a statement.

Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland on how many occasions the gaming club in Perth was inspected or visited by officials of the Gaming Board or of his Department, before the regulations were made which occasioned its closure.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

None: the regulations are not concerned with the suitability of particular premises.

Mr. MacArthur

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, before making new regulations, he will consult with the Gaming Board, police, local authorities and tourist associations, so that the future of gaming in Scotland can be reviewed in the light of local opinion.

Mr. Gordon Campbell

I am in principle in favour of local consultations, but until I have discussed the position generally with the Gaming Board I would not wish to decide what form it should take.
