HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 cc178-9W
Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science when the building of a new school will be started to replace the present Swinton Fitzwilliam Junior Mixed School.

Mr. van Straubenzee

I cannot say. This school is one of 212 which the West Riding local education authority wishes to be considered for improvement or replacement. When it can be included in a major building programme will depend on the resources available and the relative priorities which the authority attaches to the schools in its list.

Mr. Edwin Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will sanction the provision of a large hall at or near to the Swinton Fitzwilliam Junior Mixed School, in view of the distance children have to walk at present for school meals.

Mr. van Straubenzee

Within the allocations made to it for minor works, which are mainly intended to provide additional places, improvements of this kind are a matter for the local education authority.
