HC Deb 23 July 1970 vol 804 cc221-2W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what consultations he is having with local housing authorities concerning the keeping of secret files on council house vacancies; to what extent this practice is followed by local housing authorities in England and Wales; what representations he has received from the National Council for Civil Liberties and other organisations about this practice; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Channon

The form of tenancy records is a matter for the local authorities who have the full statutory responsibility, and neither need to consult with my right hon. Friend nor to inform him of their methods. I was glad to note that in the recently reported case the local authority is reported as having discontinued a practice which had attracted adverse comment. My right hon. Friend has received no representations from the National Council for Civil Liberties or other organisations.
