HC Deb 22 July 1970 vol 804 cc162-3W
Mrs. Doris Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many primary schoolchildren living in the Ladywood constituency have been offered places at grammar schools in Birmingham as a result of the junior school leaving examination held this year; what percentage this number is of the total child population who were affected in the Ladywood constituency; and how this percentage compares with the average for the city of Birmingham.

Mr. van Straubenzee

I understand that 93 children due to transfer this year from primary schools in the Birmingham, Ladywood constituency were offered selective secondary school places. This number represents 13.7 per cent. of the age group. The corresponding figure for the whole of the city is 27.9 per cent.
