Dame Irene Wardasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether, after considering the report on the plight of single women who give up their employment to look after elderly relatives, issued by the National Council for the Single Woman, a copy of which is in his possession, he will consult the Chancellor of the Exchequer and the Minister of Housing and Local Government to consider ways to improve the position of this section of the community.
§ Sir K. JosephWhen the new attendance allowance becomes payable, it will help some of these families. Beyond this I shall certainly want to consider in conjunction with my right hon. Friends their general position carefully.
