HC Deb 20 July 1970 vol 804 c40W
Mr. Ronald Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to release the land occupied by Holloway Prison for housing, having regard to the housing shortage in the London Borough of Islington and Hackney; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carlisle

The plans for the redevelopment of Holloway prison on its present site are well advanced and provide for preliminary demolition work to start this autumn. My right hon. Friend recognises the housing shortage in Islington and other London boroughs, but an intensive search failed to reveal any other suitable site for this prison.
