asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what effect loss of earnings payments to councillors have on their earnings-related pensions.

Mr. Dean

Loss of earnings payments to councillors are not regarded as taxable, and no graduated contributions, which would count towards the graduated addition to the retirement pension, are levied on such payments.
