HC Deb 16 July 1970 vol 803 c266W
Mr. Merlyn Rees

asked the Minister of Technology if he will list all the incentives available to attract industry to the intermediate areas of Yorkshire and Humberside.

Mr. Ridley

The financial incentives available to industry in the intermediate areas and which are not available in the non-assisted areas are:

  1. (i) grants at 25 per cent. (in some cases 35 per cent.) of factory building costs linked to the creation of new employment as in the development areas;
  2. (ii) Government built factories on the same basis as in the development areas;
  3. (iii) the full range of training grants and training assistance and help towards the transfer of key workers as in the development areas.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

asked the Minister of Technology which parts of Yorkshire and Humberside are classified as intermediate areas.

Mr. Ridley

The employment exchange areas included within the Yorkshire Coalfield and North Humberside intermediate areas are listed in the Intermediate Areas Order, 1970.
