asked the Minister of State for Defence whether he will propose joint nuclear development with France, in view of her strategic nuclear capability and the qualitative development of her submarine-based nuclear force.

The general subject of potential Anglo-French co-operation is one to which we will be giving very careful consideration in our review of defence policy. It would be premature to take a definite position on this issue now.
