HC Deb 16 July 1970 vol 803 cc243-4W
Mrs. Castle

asked the Secretary of State for Employment and Productivity how many people were undergoing industrial training or retraining in Great Britain in October, 1964, and June, 1970, respectively; and how many of them were being trained in Government training centres.

Mr. Dudley Smith

Total information for these dates is not available, but the numbers under training in Government Training Centres were 3,153 in October, 1964 and 7,640 in June, 1970. It is estimated that in September, 1968 nearly 1,400,000 persons were receiving training in all industries and services, including over 500,000 apprentices. A corresponding figure for 1964 is not available.
