HC Deb 14 July 1970 vol 803 c196W
Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the average rate of salary increase in the period 1951 to 1969, or the nearest available year of reference, for general practitioners, general dental practitioners and consultants, nurses and hospital porters.

Mr. Alison

Information in the form requested is not available for general medical and general dental practitioners, who are not paid by salary but the total payments per practitioner (including reimbursements of practice expenses) made by the executive councils to each group have risen by about 4.5 per cent. per annum compound over the period 1951 to 1969. The available information for the other groups is as follows:

Period Average annual rate of increase (Compound)
Per cent.
Consultants 1954–1969 4.1
Nurses
Ward Sisters 1952–1969 5.3
Staff Sisters 1952–1969 4.7
Hospital Porters 1951–1969 5.3
