asked the Secretary for State for the Home Department whether, in the light of the general public concern, he will arrange for a public inquiry to be held into the proposed closure of the Downham Fire Station at Downham, Bromley, Kent.

My right hon. Friend is arranging for one of Her Majesty's Inspectors of Fire Services to investigate the situation and will decide in the light of his report whether a public local inquiry is necessary. Meanwhile, organisations and individuals known to be interested have been invited to elaborate their objections.
