HC Deb 07 July 1970 vol 803 c16W
22. Mr. Ashton

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will provide an estimate of the revenue to be obtained from the National Coal Board by levying a value-added tax of 10 per cent. on the industry.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

If a value-added tax were charged at 10 per cent. on the National Coal Board's purchases as well as on its sales, the net tax to be obtained from the National Coal Board, on the basis of the board's account for 1968–69, would have been about £50 million.
