§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government 22W whether he will make a statement of his proposals to allow the sale of council-owned housing to sitting tenants; and if he will take steps to ensure that these houses are not resold to the highest bidder and to those with less social need.
§ Mr. Peter WalkerI have removed the previous restrictions on the sale of council houses, so that now all authorities have consent to dispose of council houses as they think fit. Authorities can impose conditions preventing resale for five years at a figure above the purchase price and reserving the right of pre-emption for the same period.
