HC Deb 06 July 1970 vol 803 cc5-6W
57. Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the present number of autistic children at present resident in mental sub-normality hospitals; what arrangements are being made to transfer them to autistic specialist establishments; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Alison

No reliable estimate has been made. Special "autistic units" in hospitals are not generally favoured by psychiatrists.
