HC Deb 29 January 1970 vol 794 c396W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will publish in HANSARD a detailed statement giving figures of salary paid on appointment to the chairman of the Horserace Betting Levy Board, how many increases and by how much this salary has been increased and on what dates; and why the latest increase of 10 per cent. was granted, in view of the increase made less than 12 months ago, and the fact that the salary has been increased by 35 per cent. since November, 1967.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

The approved salary on the appointment of the present chairman on 16th November, 1967, on a part-time basis, was £4,800. The full-time equivalent, which was paid with effect from 1st September, 1968, was £6,000. In the light of the recent report of the National Board for Prices and Incomes, "Top salaries in the Private Sector and Nationalised Industries", the salary has now been increased to £6,600 with effect from 1st July, 1969.
