HC Deb 26 January 1970 vol 794 c248W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, in view of Recommendation 193 on Western European Union and the political union of Europe, adopted by the Assembly of Western European Union on 10th December, 1969, if, following The Hague Conference, it remains the policy of Her Majesty's Government that Western European Union is the appropriate body for the co-ordination of the foreign and defence policies of Western Europe; and what steps the Government will take to enable the Western European Union Council to improve its consultations and co-operation.

Mr. Luard

It remains our policy that the Western European Union Council should intensify its work of consultation with a view to achieving the adoption of positions agreed and harmonised to the fullest possible extent. We shall continue to work to that end.
