§ 37. Mr. Wigginasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make arrangements to enable contributions to Save As You Earn to be paid into post offices by cheque.
§ Mr. DiamondNo. This would complicate procedures within the Post Office, but cheques may be sent post-free to the Save As You Earn office.
§ 1. Mr. Randallasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the Save As You Earn Scheme concerning the participation of staffs of the nationalised industries, the Post Office and the National Health Service; what request he made to each of the industries and services to encourage their staffs to participate; what replies he received; and what response has been forthcoming, together with the estimated number of staff in each industry and service, respectively, contributing to the scheme.
§ Mr. TaverneAll the bodies referred to have been approached and, in particular, the Coal, Electricity, Gas and Steel Boards, the Post Office and most sections of the hospital service have agreed in principle to offer S.A.Y.E. facilities by deduction from pay to their staffs. National Savings Committee field staff are now approaching employees through local management but in view of the large number of employees involved and the 87W need to provide for S.A.Y.E. under various pay systems, these approaches are at different stages of development and it will be some time before any significant figures of response are available.
