asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the income after tax and National In- surance contributions, assuming full available contracting out, of a married man with no children in both October, 1964, and January, 1970, taking his annual income before tax to be all earned and as follows on each date, and expressing each answer in January, 1970, prices, £500, £800, £1,000, £2,000, £3,000, £4,000, £5,000, £10,000 and £20,000.

The rise in average earnings of all employees between October, 1964, and December, 1969—the last available date—based on the D.E.P. monthly earnings enquiry was 42 per cent.—just over 7 per cent. per annum.

The price index used relates to December, 1969, which is the latest date for which it is available.
