HC Deb 25 February 1970 vol 796 cc363-4W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many rating reductions have been made to private dwelling-houses over the past 10 years as a result of reduced amenities arising from the construction of urban motorways and trunk roads over the past 10 years; and what was the average value of such reductions.

The amounts for the last two years are not entirely comparable with those for earlier years because the police grant, which amounted to £241,937 in 1966–67, ceased to be payable to the county borough from 1st July, 1967, when responsibility for the police service was transferred to the Cheshire Police Authority. The latest estimate of rate support grant for 1969–70 amounts to £4,386,619 compared with £3,961,425 for 1968–69. The amounts of other grants for 1969–70 are not yet known.
