HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 cc287-8W
Mr. Robert Edwards

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the total amount paid from Government sources to the County Borough of Wolverhampton in rate support grants and their equivalent in each of the past seven years; and what is the estimated sum payable in 1970–71.

Mr. Denis Howell

The total amount of the rate support grants, or their equivalents, for the county borough of Wolverhampton for each of the years 1963–64 to 1969–70 and the estimated amount payable for 1970–71 are as follows:

£
1963–64 2,013,928
1964–65 2,105,816
1965–66 2,462,603
1966–67 4,950,650
1967–68 5,766,863
1968–69 6,276,372
1969–70 7,391.190
1970–71 8,040,949

The amounts for 1963–64 to 1965–66 are not comparable with those for later years because the extension of the borough with effect from 1st April, 1966, increased the population by about threequarters.
