HC Deb 24 February 1970 vol 796 c273W
48. Mr. Charles Pannell

asked the Minister of Transport what steps he has taken since 22nd July 1969 with the local authorities to deal with the increasing danger on the Farnley Ring Road, particularly at Butt Lane, Tong Road and Stonebridge Lane; and what report was made by his Department's Road Safety Unit to the Leeds County Borough Council.

Mr. Mulley

My Department's Road Safety Unit has made a report to the council recommending measures to improve safety on this length of road. As a result, the council has provided two lengths of double white lines to prevent overtaking and is about to advertise a proposal for a 40 m.p.h. speed limit. A number of other measures are planned, including the re-siting of bus stops and other street furniture and the provision of bus draw-ins. The cutting back of vegetation which obstructs visibility is also proceeding.

The council, on its own initiative, has also erected other warning signs.
